Nitrous Oxide…isn't this a drug?
In fact, Nitrous Oxide gas (N2O) has numerous applications including acting as an anaesthetic. It is also called “Laughing Gas” and has been used by dentists as a method of relaxing their patients. For our purposes, it offers a wonderful ability to bind with fats and other stabilizers in liquids to create food textures. It is found in packaged whipped cream as a propellant. We offer this wonderful product for this purpose only. We will not sell anyone chargers if we suspect that they are using it for these purposes. Also, because of the potential for abuse, and because it is only logical that online buying should be the domain of adults, we will not knowingly sell our products to anyone under the age of 18. Additionally, we reserve the right to cancel any transactions we suspect might include the purchase of nitrous oxide chargers for the purpose of inhalation.
Is it legal to buy Nitrous Oxide chargers?
We are selling a food product and it is not intended to be used for any other purposes. We will not sell our products to people under the age of 18, and will not send it to you if we believe you are not using it for its intended purpose. The misuse and abuse of Nitrous Oxide is dangerous to your health. The Nitrous Oxide contained in these chargers is highly purified, much like what you may have been treated with in your dentist's office. It is also known as "laughing gas". We emphasize that you are not to inhale this gas. If you accidentally inhale the gas, exhale immediately because in extreme cases narcosis occurs while the gas is in your lungs. There have been reported cases of death occurring by people inhaling Nitrous Oxide from chargers using plastic bags or otherwise cutting their air flow.
How do I handle these CO2 and N2O chargers?
Care and Handling Guidelines: Nitrous Oxide chargers are under pressure and are intended to be used only with whipped cream dispensers like you'll find at this site. Never open the chargers with any other type of device, as it could be dangerous! Keep both chargers and dispensers out of reach of children. Never dispose of full chargers; you must always empty them first. Temperatures of chargers should never exceed 50º Celsius (122º Fahrenheit.) Always empty the whipped cream dispenser before you open the top.
Can I recycle these chargers?
Both the CO2 (soda) chargers and the N2O (whip cream) chargers are made of steel and can certainly be recycled. We encourage you to recycle them in your community. Are you recycling? If it is available in your community, you mght learn more from this resource: Waste Online.
Can I "overcharge" the dispensers with Nitrous Oxide chargers and whipped cream?
The dispensers are typically intended to hold between 250ml to 1 litre of liquid and 1 to 2 chargers, depending on the size of dispenser bottle. Your yield of finished product is between 2 and 6 times the amount of liquid you use. If you "overfill" or "overcharge" the dispenser, you risk losing liquid through the gasket at the lid. Typically, the pressure in the dispenser bottle will attain the same pressure as the charger and you will not be able to add more gas, but we recommend you only charge the bottles with one or two charger cartridges, perhaps 3 in a 1 litre size whipper. If you are using liquids with gelatines or other stabilizing agents, you might need more nitrous oxide whip cream chargers to achieve the foam.
